PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENTS
We are taught from a young age to look both ways before crossing the street, yet the vast majority of pedestrian accidents happen between an automobile and a person on foot. Of course this means that there is no protection for the victim, who will absorb the full impact of the collision.
As a result pedestrian injuries can be quite devastating, leading to life-altering injuries and sometimes death. Collisions with pedestrians and bicyclists account for 114,000 crashes, only 1.8% of US crashes, but 13.5% of all fatal crashes in the United States.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Association reports that every year around 5,000 pedestrians die in motor vehicle accidents, and somewhere in the vicinity of over 78,000 pedestrians endure injuries when struck by an automobile or truck in the United States.
